Frequently Asked Questions
Can everyone be hypnotized?
Most normal, healthy, willing people can be hypnotized. Sometimes, however, a person may be hypervigilant and/or super analytical about the process and this can stand in the way of achieving a hypnotic state. Also, it's natural for first-time clients to have some anxiety about the process. Often, not knowing what to expect, or what is expected can be distracting. I have special techniques for overcoming these obstacles, but sometimes it helps to have a short, introductory hypnosis session. You may choose to schedule such a session prior to our beginning work on your particular circumstance. Please see my page about hypnosis for a more in-depth explaination of what hypnosis is (and is not), and see my Services page for information about the introductory session.
What can I expect, and what is expected of me during my first hypnosis session?
During our first meeting we will spend 20-30 minutes getting to know one another, and we'll talk about your goals and any issues that may be concerning you. You will find my office has a very relaxing atmosphere, and that I use a client-centered approach.
You will then sit in a recliner that allows you to find the position with which you are most comfortable. I'll then lead you slowly and gently through a special process called progressive relaxation to help you relax all the muscles in your body. All you have to do is let go, trust the process, and allow this deep relaxation to occur. From there I will take you through a unique hypnosis experience that I will taylor just for you based on the information I have gathered from you during our talk. This can be a full session from one of the wellness goals you have chosen from my list of services, or just an introductory, abreviated session.
What is meant by a "client-centered" approach?
A client-centered approach means just what it says. The focus and direction of the hypnotherapy session is based entirely on what you, the client, need at that particular time. It is not based upon me imposing my philosophies, beliefs, desires, needs, or other agenda onto you. It means that my role is that of facilitator, not director. I help you find your own answers to issues that stand in the way of your being happy and healthy. I offer you the opportunity to look at yourself without judgment.
Will I really quit smoking for good through hypnosis?
The success rate for smoking cessation is directly dependent on your committment to quitting. If you are 100% committed to ridding your life of tobacco for good, then your success rate will be 100%. Sometimes clients seek my services because in reality it is someone else, or some other circumstance that is driving their desire to quit. In these cases clients struggle and have less than a 100% success rate. What I then do is help them examine, through hypnosis, their deeply personal reason for smoking. What they invariably discover is that smoking has been used as a response to some emotion that they have been avoiding. Through hypnosis we can then examine the emotion in a safe and non-judgmental environment so that it can be resolved. Then we can move on to their becoming a permanent non-smoker.
Why do you charge up-front for smoking cessation?
Processing your payment before your first smoking cessation session establishes your committment to yourself for success. Given the price of tobacco products, you will be saving over 10 times the price of the program within one year. Otherwise, all that money will have just gone up in smoke.
How fast can I lose weight with hypnosis?
That depends on a couple of factors. For instance, how overweight are you? Persons who are very overweight (>50 lbs.) will lose at a different rate than those who have only a few extra pounds to lose. It also depends on a person's individual metabolic rate and how much they excercise. What hypnosis does is help you examine and change your relationship with food, eating, and exercise. By getting in touch with the part of your mind that has created an unhealthy relationship with food and physical activity, hypnosis can help recreate that relationship and establish resolution for the underlying issue.
How can knowing what happened to me in a past life help me?
Past Life Regression (PLR) therapy can aid and enhance your current life in a wide variety of ways. It can help explain the existence of physical symptoms such as pain that has defied medical diagnosis, birthmarks, tinnitus (chronic ear ringing), to name a few. It can help explain irrational fears and phobias or unusually strong reactions to people, places and things. It can give insight into your relationship with people to whom who are especially close because, most likely, they have lived with you in many previous lives. Knowing how your relationship played out in a previous lifetime can often lend great insight into your current relationship issues.
